Under the shade the temperature hovered around in the calm, cool 70s, with the occasional breeze wiping away any sweat from direct sunlight. The sun beat down hard, though, in the areas unprotected from it's brightness.
As a result of the gorgeous weather, hundreds of locals turned out for Iowa City 4th of July celebrations. Don't miss out on the Iowa City/Coralville Jaycee's fireworks display to be launched from Hubbard Park in the downtown Iowa City area. Jaycee's has contracted with J & M displays to offer the show, which will last roughly 15 to 20 minutes Friday evening.

Trekfest, Riverside's annual community festival with a little science fiction thrown in, attracted several hundred people again this year. Some people took the opportunity to dress as their favorite Star Trek characters, while others simply enjoyed the parade, rides, and entertainment.
Trekfest 2008 included a wide variety of events, including a volleyball tournament, a parade, and a handful of dealers selling StarTrek merchandise.

As the flooding progressed (which may crest at the Coralville reservoir on Sunday), volunteers continued working together to fill thousands if not hundreds of thousands of sandbags over the past few days and today. Burlington bridge may soon be closed, but we are not sure exactly when.
