Amidst theory that the Burlington bridge, almost essentially the last surviving link between east and west, will be closed, the bridge fortunately remains open for those needing to travel in this dangerous time. Sandbaggers, however, were already hard at work placing sandbags on the east side of the bridge, protecting campus buildings within the potential floodzone.

Floodwaters continue to rise, not expecting to crest until well above any possibly normal flood zone. Several dangers are, of course, imminent in such a flood situation.
Richard, who works for Facilities Management, told of one potentially devastating situation. Every major news outlet is already on the scene, and we better be too. The Owl will now be making an advanced effort to bring you more coverage of the Iowa City Flooding, as up to date possible.
First, some major developments. Enjoying the great day, as rain looms about an hour away, a couple of youngsters play chess on the walk near the Iowa City Public Library using the built in life-sized chess board. The game was a great way to enjoy the day in downtown Iowa City, as temperatures hovered in the high 70s with no sun visible.
"We saw people playing last weekend at the Art Festival and had to try it," said Jennifer Comstock who was watching over the boys as they played.
