Fire at Burge Residence Hall

A little past 10:00pm (10:15 est) tonight a fire broke out in an area of Burge Residence Halls at the University of Iowa. The fire occurred near the fifth floor of Burge hall. Residents were let back in about an hour later at 11:10pm, and they were being advised to stay in their rooms except to use restrooms as necessary.

According to some reports, a blanket had caught on fire on a floor lamp in a resident's room. Residents of the 2500 block of rooms could not immediately return to their rooms, but they are expected to be allowed back into their rooms by the end of the night. There is no fire damage to any rooms except the room which caught fire.
