Obama's visit to the University of Iowa

This past Friday, President Obama visited Iowa City to speak with the University of Iowa. He continued his message against cutting millionaire taxes.

President Obama, his wife, and Vice President Joe Biden and his wife as well all made a stop in Iowa City as part of the campaigning after the recent speech to the Democratic National Convention.

As part of his foundation for his campaign this year, the president focused most of his speech on the topic of jobs, tax cuts and the economy thus far.

According to the CNN Politics website, Obama stated at the rally, "I don't believe that another round of tax breaks for millionaires will bring good jobs back to our shores and pay down our deficit...I sure don't think firing teachers or kicking students off of financial aid is somehow going to grow our economy or help us compete with scientists and engineers that are coming out of China."

Obama has thus far been successful adding many jobs to the nation. More than 4.6 million jobs have been added, as he stated during the rally. The unemployment rate right now is down to 8.1%, but Obama believes this is just a start.

The unemployment rate in Iowa is only at 5.3%. This is lower than any other swing state and the national average as well.

The president was not the only candidate that was in Iowa. Mitt Romney was campaigning in Iowa this weekend as well, focusing on Obama and his treatment of the economy.
