Iowa City Fireworks

J & M Displays has been doing the Iowa City Jaycee's fireworks show for over 20 years, and this year's show will be no exception. The 17K show is planned to last for 28 minutes this year, featuring everything that can be expected from a professional fireworks display.

Although many fireworks amateurs travel the distance to Missouri to buy fireworks across the boarder, most don't even come close to a few percent of the 17K Jaycee's is spending on this fourth of July celebration. Kevin, president of the Iowa City/Coralville Jaycees, told The Owl "it's a little less than last year, but we're not syncing it with music this time." He reports that they experienced a few technical problems last year, which caused the show to quadruple in length (more space in between the fireworks).

The best view for the show was offered right on the hill on Madison street, just below the old capital building. Trees and various buildings blocked the view of some lower fireworks.

This year's finale was grand, lasting over a full minute and giving viewers a memorable experience filled with explosions, kabooms, and bright light. The finale consisted of about half the total shells as the entire show, which seemed to turn the entire downtown sky white.
