Genesis Health Systems reportedly confirmed that 19 of 20 ICU beds in Davenport and about 5 of 6 ICU beds in Silvis are occupied, meaning hospitals in these cities are running out of capacity for new patients needing critical and intensive care. This is especially worrying with COVID-19 cases rising.

According to statics from Google and The New York Times, cases are at the highest they have been since January 2021, with the new Delta variant being far more contagious than previous COVID-19 strains.

COVID-19 is caused by a coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. Older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.

Unvaccinated individuals in higher risk categories are more likely to require hospitalization for COVID-19 symptoms.
