Mother of Missing Iowa City Girl to Face Federal Court

Although there is no news about the missing Iowa City cousins, the mother of one of them will be appearing in federal court on unrelated charges, according to an article on sfgate.com.

Misty Morrissey, mother of 11-year old Lyric Cook, has been ordered by a U.S. District Judge to appear in federal court in Cedar Rapids on suspicion of violating her supervised release.

Officials filed what is called a "supervised release violation petition" against Morrissey. No information has been released about the conditions leading up to the filing, as the documents regarding the case are sealed until the court date.

Morrissey's release was conditional, and was given to her in relation to a methamphetamine case from 2003.

According to reports, she pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine. She was given 4 years of prison followed by 5 years supervised release.

She spent an additional amount of time in prison and was given another year of supervised release after she was released the first time for violating her release the first time.

Morrissey has a public defender representing her in her upcoming federal court case.

Morrissey is the mother of Lyric and the aunt of the other girl, 9-year-old Elizabeth Collins, that disappeared almost exactly four months ago when they were on a bike ride. Police believe that the girls were kidnapped and may still be alive.

Morrissey retains that she has no information about the disappearance of the two girls.

Morrissey's estranged husband, Daniel, who was also questioned after the disappearance, is also facing methamphetamine-related charges as well as domestic abuse and other drug charges.
